We’re Back!

Hello folks! It’s been a few weeks since my last post (did you miss me?) but I’ve been quite busy with my thesis (remember the thesis, the whole reason I started this blog? That!) To cut a long story short I had a few epiphanies (Joyce might have been proud) and managed to write a 2nd Chapter my supervisors were pleased with (it is the Empire Strikes Back of my thesis) and thankfully I am also well on schedule; planning to have the first draft of my 3rd chapter and the conclusions written before the beginning of August so that I can spend the final month of the summer editing the thesis before the deadline in early September. That is essentially “the plan” for the next few weeks; reading, re-reading, writing and re-writing…so yes more of the same (if it ain’t broken don’t fix it).

In non-academic news: the Irish weather has had some semblance of summer for the past few days and I got to continue the summer Pride tour close to home in the sunshine attending Limerick Pride. I’m not even the biggest fan of the typical summer weather, being someone with terrible hay fever who spends the majority of his time indoors reading, writing or watching movies, you do the maths, but its hard to deny that celebrations are made better by beautiful weather. I was even accompanied by my dear mother (let’s hear it for supportive parent allies!) Next Pride I am attending will be in the city of my birth and college education: Cork.

That’s all there is to report really; the thesis is coming together and I am finding time to enjoy my summer in the interim. I also have a few plans and many plans for plans for blog posts in the next few weeks, so thanks again for choosing to join me and I look forward to continuing to fill my Scholar’s Notebook with writings about my research, literature, film and the experiences of my life. As Robert Frost says in his poem “The Road Not Taken”: ” “Two roads diverged in a wood, and I took the one less travelled by. And that has made all the difference”
